　　美国文理学院真的好拿奖学金么？

　　相对于大U来说，国内学生家长并不十分了解文理学院。但是To be honest，在美国人眼中那里才是培养精英人才的摇篮。如果把学校看成投资人，从上万的申请者中选择了你发放奖学金，那是深入你的能力和经济条件后做出的决定；绝不是脑袋一热，喜欢你就给你了的。所以单纯问文理学院的奖学金是否好拿，那只能回答要看学校和申请者个人的质素。

　　我们先来了解下奖学金的分类：奖学金分为need-based和merit-based两种，顾名思义，后者是指根据学生学业成绩和个人素质的优异程度来给奖，就像中国一般常说的优秀奖学金；而前者则是完全依据学生家庭经济状况来给奖，主要考虑的点是父母收入、家庭资产等其他因素；也有不少学校是二者结合的考量。总体来说奖学金的数量要多与大U。

　　常常说的”need-blind”并不是奖学金，而是指admission policy，申请时不考虑经济需求的习惯。如下图:

　　奖学金发放数量一般和招生人数没有太直接的关系。Need-based是申请人最希望得到的奖，奖金形式一般有grant（助学金）、scholarship（奖学金）、 loan（贷款）和campus job（校园工作）几类。

　　下面我们来大致举几个文理学院奖学金发放的例子：

　　1. 奖金录取比较丰厚的学校：与中国有较多交流计划，长期看来录取也比较固定；同时学校自身经济实力也很好。

　　Franklin And Marshall College：发放need-based,每年能给出不少全奖，而非全奖的学生可以拿到10000到15000的资助。虽然学生的要求有影响录取的可能，但是一旦录取学生要求是可以全额满足的。而且，对于Early Decision有优待，将奖学金作为offer的一部分。

　　Lafayett College：公认的对中国学生不错的学校，往年的录取率保持在5名。提供need-based aid平均是27000到30000不等。

　　Middlebury College：百分之百的need-base奖学金，对本国和国际学生一视同仁，总体来说对中国学生非常慷慨；每年录取超过10个中国学生，这几年录取人数都在上升；奖金数量比较多，最少的一年学生只需要出1000刀，虽然固定贷款的比例高达每年4000，但是补助很好；并且经济资助会随着学费上涨而上涨。

　　Smith，女校，给国际学生的资助平均为$27,000。

　　2.报名人数众多、奖金名额较少的学校。由于竞争激烈，虽然录取名额可能不少，但是给奖名额和数量就会很少。

　　Williams College: 100% Need-based scholarship，给奖名额局限在3名内，全奖不多；

　　Carleton College：大约一年$36,975；只有特别优秀的国际学生提供ED的资助。每年有7个Starr Scholarship（Need-based）给亚洲人，基本上每次都有两个左右给中国人。

　　Colgate University、Hamilton College一般一年录取4到个人，由于近来报名人数猛增，录取率变低，提供一般的Need-based；

　　其他像Oberlin、Bate、Wellesley、Bowdoin、CMC、Barnard、Bucknell、Trinity、Furman、Mount Holyoke Grinnell和Connecticut，尤其是前四所，都是属于竞争激烈，给奖处于中等及比较少的程度。

　　3.名校，很少招收纯大陆背景的中国学生，奖学金较少。

　　Amherst College：竞争十分激烈，Finance Assistant(FA)给予率只有10%，几乎从来不录取纯大陆背景的中国学生。

　　Swarthmore College：提供给国际学生的奖金不多，每年只有1.8million。申请奖学金可能会影响到录取

　　4.由于地理位置或资源限制而几乎不给奖的学校

　　Dickinson College：只有3%的国际学生，给奖也是merit-based

　　Rhodes College：FA少，取而代之是各种各样的scholarship

　　对于美国文理学院奖学金申请者来说，大部分学校招生要求明确写道，一旦录取都会有全额奖学金，难的是在获得录取,且奖学金申请者众多，对于奖学金比较丰富的文理学院来说，也提高了要求。因此最好在申请前期了解清楚学校对于奖学金的态度以及竞争程度。此外，要去美国前30文理学院，最好能够刷出更漂亮的分数，新托福105分、SAT 2000分，是非常必要的。

　　如何申请美国大学？

　　搜索common application，进入，注册用户。

　　找到你想申请的美国大学、文理学院，然后按照提示一步步地填写自己的申请表格，提交成功后学校会发来一封邮件，说明收到了你的申请。

　　然后去考托福，SAT 把分数提交给你申请的学校
