鞭梢效应（whipping effect）指当建筑物受地震作用时，它顶部的小突出部分由于质量和刚度比较小，在每一个来回的转折瞬间，形成较大的速度，产生较大的位移，就和鞭子的尖一样，这种现象称为鞭梢效应。
在《工程抗震术语标准》规范中是这样写的：在地震作用下，高层建筑或其他建（构）筑物顶部细长突出部分振幅剧烈增大的现象。
