定冠词的用法
1、 因为前后文之间的关系， 某名词所称的物品已十分明显， 或已经有一定的范畴， 该名词应加the。Shut the door. Please pass me the caster.关上门。请把脚轮递给我。
2、表该名词总称。The cow is a useful animal. 牛是一种有用的动物。(= Cows are useful animals.)
3、前边已提完的名词，再一次提及时前边加the。Once upon a time there was a little boy who lived in a cottage. The cottage was in the country, and the boy lived there all his life. 从前，有一个小男孩住在小屋里。小屋在乡下，男孩一生都住在那里。
4、用以为片语或子句所修饰的名词以前。This is the book that I promised to lend you. 这是我答应借给你的那本书。
5、用在宇宙空间（独一无二）的星体名词以前。The sun; the moon; the sky; the earth.太阳；月亮；天空；地球。
6、用在方向，方位等名词以前。The sun rises in the east and set in the west. 太阳从东方升起，从西方落下。
7、乐器的名称前要加the。To play the piano 弹钢琴(violin, guitar, flute, etc.)
8、表明部门的名词前要加the。Gasoline is sold by the gallon. Meat is sold by the catty.汽油按加仑出售。肉是按斤卖的。
