一、含义不同
1、restrict
v. 限制，限定(数量、范围等)；束缚；妨碍；阻碍；(以法规)限制。
2、restrain
v. (尤指用武力)制止，阻止，管制；约束(自己)；控制(自己)；忍住；抑制；控制。
二、用法不同
restrict和restrain这两个词都有“限制,约束,管制”的意思。restrain的语气比较温和,有时指自我约束；restrict是指限制在一个界限或范围内。
restrict是指限制在一个界限或范围内。指事先确定空间、时间或数量的极限，一旦超越限度，就会造成不良结果。当然也可指不事先规定，而且自然的或固有的界限。
restrain含义广泛，指用强力或权力去阻止或限制某人做某事。
三、侧重点不同
restrain：多用于restrain sb. from doing sth.指控制他人不去做某事。restrict：只强调一种限定范围，使之不超过某种限度，常与to连用。
