一一、两种英文全译本，一个是杨宪益及其夫人戴乃迭的译本，一个是大卫·霍克斯（Hawkes）译本。总体来讲，杨戴本偏直译，Hawkes本偏意译。
二、杨宪益夫妇翻译得比较直白,大多数情况下是直译的,Hawkes译本中有一些很灵活的翻译方式,也有不少地方偏离作者本意。
三、杨宪益，江浙人,在牛津大学学习中古英语文学、古罗马文学。戴乃迭(GladysMargaret Taylor)是英国传教士之女,对于中国文化极感兴趣,后来在牛津学的中文。
四、首先，就语言风格而言，杨宪益更喜欢直译，因此语言的弹性受到了限制。相反，Hawkes更注重语言的功能对等，他的译文对于译语读者来说更为通顺。
其次，就翻译策略来说，杨宪益明显采用了归化法，并把直译作为主要的翻译技巧。由于他深谙中国文化，译文原使著再现。Hawkes也对中国文学有很深的造诣，1948年至1951年在北京大学学习中国文学，之后成为牛津大学的中国文学教授。总体来说，他的翻译是直译和意译，归化与异化的结合。
